Well! tradition doesn’t necessarily mean boring, as some classic wedding decor ideas that have been in fashion for a long time now are still considered classy and are surprisingly incorporated in many modern Indian weddings as well. You can keep the whole wedding decorations traditional or maybe an amalgamation of modern and traditional by adding some classic props on a modern themed decor in order to strike a balance. Moreover, there is no limit to the traditional decor idea, all thanks to multiple Indian cultures so it’s not as boring as the white wedding in the West. As you can literally pick any theme from any culture that is of utmost significance to you or anything that will look good for the photos. Also I have listed some themes and props that will give you an idea of the dream decor for the big day.
Classic south
When it comes to South Indian weddings, tradition and rituals are followed to the t. Every part of the wedding has a meaning and purpose to fulfill and that is what the ambiance of the wedding venue is supposed to resemble. The most surprising thing for me was the temple style mandap that is pretty common in South India. Such grandeur and elegance added, results in a beautiful ceremony that will definitely be remembered by everyone, like this giant mandap setup spotted at a Bangalore wedding! This is a great way to incorporate the beautiful temples of the South as they are not only breathtaking to look at but also have a higher significance in the culture.
Royal Rajwadas
The royalty does not end in the south but continues up to the northern part of India as well. If you want to be eminent but in the northern way, take some help from the Maharajas! But for the moment let me inform you that there is going to be a lot of bright red color in every nook and corner of the decor as this is the color of royalty, pair it with hints of gold and lights that illuminate this little palace of yours. A lot of inspiration can be taken from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period films as these have captured the true essence of the whole theme. Get your hands on essential outdoor event rentals like massive gold chandeliers, thousands of diyas and royal chairs for a dining table that has been set up for a Maharaja.
An all white Muslim Wedding
Now this may be way too cliché for you but don’t you think it’s still so exquisite? This is a pretty common theme but if elegance has a face this will be it! I mean the backdrop, the stage, ceiling and everything else decked up in gorgeous white flowers with just a hint of light color flowers is a setup for nothing but a fairytale. The best part for me is the partition wall made of flowers just like a huge curtain from heaven that separates the bride and the groom during the auspicious nikkah ceremony. If this theme is too white for you, add emerald green and gold through some props here and there. Another very famous combination would be pastel pink and lavender if you still want the decor to be simple and soothing.
Rangoli is a must
Be it a breathtaking Tamil wedding or a larger than life Rajasthani wedding affair, incorporate a rangoli design to not only add something cool to the whole decor but also follow the traditions. Authentically, a floral rangoli is preferred at a South Indian wedding at the entrance in order to provide a special welcome to the guest and also rangolis are made in other parts like in the middle of the sitting area of the banquet. This traditional folk art- as old as the ancient Ramayana is considered to bring luck. Hence, it is preferably made at the threshold.’
Age old ritual then traditions add a certain amount of significance to the most important day of your life. Moreover, the traditional wedding decors are tried and tested, so it’s impossible to go wrong with them. It’s timeless and will always remain in fashion. So don’t shy away to add a little culture to your big day.
